"Busy"ness

Ever heard of it?

Purpose of Cash Loans

When we think of cash loans, we usually think of things such as car repairs, medical bills, utility bills, and other expenses that cannot wait until the next payday. These are the most common reasons people take out cash loans though they are not the only ones. People generally have their own reasons for taking short-term loans that may not fit into the normal pattern of need. Everyone taking cash loans needs to understand that they are not loans on which you make payments every month but require repayment within a short time.

People who do not have other ways to obtain cash are more likely to take advantage of cash loans. This may include those with bad credit or those who have all of their available credit tied up. Sometimes someone will use a cash loan because they are trying to buy a house and need money to put down on the contract until they can access funds in a CD or 401K. A cash loan is the perfect solution because there is no credit check required.

Cash loans meet the needs of a wide variety of people in spite of the short-term implications. Even those with good credit may choose to take advantage of cash loans for various reasons of their own. Those reasons usually relate to not wanting to have any credit inquiries in their credit history because they will be making a large purchase now or in the near future.

Sometimes a person will take a cash loan to help a relative instead of tying up his or her own cash or credit. This is more common when the relative is promising to pay the loan off within the next couple of weeks to a month and usually involves the relative paying the accumulated interest on the cash loan.

The list of acquisitions

After the recent failed M$-Yahoo deal, the world is gaining interest in the media acquisitions.Amy Webb has long been updating this list of Yahoo,Google,Microsoft,AOL etc., and providing the list as a pdf.The list of Google as expected is the longest as expected. You can have a look at it here. For list of remaining companies follow this link

Yahoo declines M$-seeks to restart merger with AOL

Yahoo has finally rejected Microsoft's unsolicited bid saying the bid highly undervalued the company. The news also says the company won't consider anything below $40 per share against previously quoted $31 as a valid bid.If that's true, this may give rise to some new tie-ups.As Yahoo can't overcome Microsoft's hostility all by itself,it has to take help of some one else.As you all know Google already has offered a helping hand to Yahoo. But Yahoo may not take this offering because that means it becomes dependent on its main competitor. So it has to search for some other hands.

And an article in The Times says that Yahoo is seeking to revive its old merger talks with AOL.If it merges with the Time Warner Inc. 's AOL , then it could save itself from the Big Brother. But how could it be possible?May be Yahoo should now come down to change its condition that Yahoo's 20% of content business should be swapped by 80% of AOL's.Then it means as the need is from Yahoo's side, they might soften up a bit. This would be an advantage to AOL.But, still this is the way for Yahoo's way out of this.Otherwise,Microsoft may take its hostile bid to share holders. If this plan is succeeded, the 10 board members will probably be ousted. So the easy option at present is AOL.

Let us wait and see what is in store for Yahoo

Some crazy succesfull online Business ideas

I think this list is not going to be small. So I will be adding names to this list each time I find them under the tag "Online Business".To start with here are some.

Million Dollar Homepage

The first one and classic that's always going to stay on this list. The owner of the website announced that he's going to sell ad space on his site milliondollarhomepage.com at the price of $1 for 1 pixel and he sold 1million pixels like that. That made him an instant millionaire. And if you are wondering how many pixels does a page in your website has,you have to see this- these days common screen resolution is 1024x768.So the common number of pixels occupying by this is 1024*768=786,432.So he sold a little bit higher than 1024x768 and that's all his homepage consists of!

Santa Pretender

This is one more nice example for this.Byron Reese, the owner of this site , came upon the idea of a pretending Santa Claus. He offered to send letters to the kids under the name of Santa Claus. He charged the parents with $10 per letter for doing this. The letters were so qualified that they were even postmarked North Pole,Alaska to get the feel of Santa. With this business he made his sales to rise for $1million in 2005.

Napkin Ads

This is a very new site with a very new idea. The site owners have asked bar owners in US to signup for free napkins. And they offered advertisers to select their interested bars to send their company's ad-printed napkins to them.In return they charge the advertisers with a commission. This is real new idea that in my opinion is going to rock.Though this doesn't come totally as an online one,the major part of getting bars and advrtisers is via their site.

PANORAMA-A simple theory

Since this blog was started everything(ok, only 2 posts :) ) is Google. So don't think it's going on the lines of my other blog Googlinx. To prove my point now I am going to post one of my self created theories-PANORAMA.PANORAMA is what determines a product's success in the industry.PANORAMA stands for

P - Popularity
A - Advertising
N - Need
O - Onliness
R - Rate
A - Availability
M - Marking
A - Appearence

Popularity:

This point corresponds to not the reach to the people but to the talk among them. That means it depends on what do the people think about your product, how good do they rate it.

Advertising:

One of the very important factor in the success of the product, this decides the reach to the customers. So this factor corresponds to the amount of advertisement the product has got-it migh be directly from the manufacturing company,or by reviewers or by some controversories .

Need:

As you know,no one will purchase a product just because it's very nice one or it has a great popularity, they buy it because they "need" it.That's why this factor has made its place in the success of a product.

Onliness:

Onliness or uniqueness of a product will also contribute to the success of a product. If your product is unique in its own way, then it might have a chance to win over other. If not, how would buying your product or a competitor's affect the customer?

Rate:

Rate corresponds to the cost of your product compared to the other similar products in the field. So to make your product success you should sell at a cheaper cost and to sell it at cheaper cost you should check out your manufacturing processes(yeah,I need not tell that).

Availability:

The availability of your product also makes an impact on the success.Do you like to buy a soap in your street or in the other part of town?So you have to make it as easily available as it can be.This factor will be a very crucial one when it comes to FMCG products.

Marking:

Dictionary meaning of this term turns out to be "evaluation of performance by assigning a grade or score" .So for your product to be success it means it should be marked well.It could be marked well when it's of high quality. So this factor corresponds directly to the quality of the product.

Appearence:

You may think it might not be a major factor in all products. But whatever your product may be - may it be an FMCG or a service delivered or an automotive ,this factor is very important.By appearence it doesn't only mean that it should be good looking. It means that the product should also be good in terms of usability nd deliverability.

Though it may not be always possible to have all the PANORAMA in your product, but the amount of it you have is what determines the success of your product.

What if?

It often fascinates me to see people speculating over different things even though they know that they can't change what is going to happen. And by that statement don't think I don't fall into this group.Direct to the point-"What if Microsoft overtakes Yahoo?and what if Google succeeds in blocking Microsoft's bid?" .I'll deal the point in a business oriented view rather than customer oriented.

What if MS wins?

Microsoft could stop the decreasing popularity of hotmail by joining with yahoomail and make its top position secure in mail and IM categories. This could be a blow to Gmail's aspiration of becoming number one in mail. The loss in IM does not cause direct effect as Gtalk(Google's IM client) doesn't serve any ads though it has some indirect effects.check out the following analysis of the visitors to 3 sites.

Microsoft could take on Yahoo's advertising network adding to its acquisition of aQuantive so as to give strong threat to Google which has the largest ad network. But it may not be the main threat for Google's adserving network. Its threat is from smaller ones in field like WidgetBucks , Adbrite etc.

Microsoft could take hold of Yahoo's Flickr which is already a leader in the field.Google's Picasa could suffer from one more blow. They also get hold of Y!Answers and Y!Finance the top runners in their respective fields.

The Yahoo share price could rise on the tide of Microsoft's goodwill and affect the already declining GOOG share value.

This could also be considered as gateway for Microsoft's web dominance adding to its dominance in the Desktop and OS areas.

What if Google succeeds in blocking?

This could secure Google's search and adserving share causing it to increase its internal resources. This could also make Yahoo, the main competitor to its services, be dependent on it.

This could be a strong blow to Microsoft and would motivate Google into entering its most speculated Productivity tools and OS areas.

They could become the dominators who oppose dominance. Their advocacy against Microsoft's dominance would have reached the people causing them to dominate.

The GOOG share price could rise due to the ride making it increase its assets.

Should be a tit-for-tat to Microsoft for interfering in its purchase of DoubleClick and could degrade the future hopes of Microsoft of web dominance.

Google might turn more aggressive in its policies giving rise to some more new developments in their fields.

Finally, in a different view ,as a normal user of thyir services I would like to quote this

Add it up and you have a monopoly pissing match with Google and its search dominance in one corner and Microsoft and its Windows market share in the other. Pick your poison.

Google's employee satisfaction

The story is a bit old but may be the analysis will be not.As all of you might be knowing that Google topped the Fortune's list of "100 Best companies to work for" again this year, let us analyze Google in this perspective.

Employee's Perspective:
The first factor that makes Google to top the list is the college like environment in the Googleplex. There is nothing like dress code there. Sergey Brin and Larry Page , they themselves just in their early  30's  know the youth pulse and as majority of employees there are from the new young generation, this clicks very well among the employees.

The Google employees (called Googlers,in Google's jargon) hold their pride in saying they work for the best company in the world. The company has taken measures about not letting the employees go off their pride. The company's policy allows their employers to say proudly that they are working "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful"(from Google's corporate overview) , instead of saying they are "coding" or "selling ads" .That makes them proud of themselves.

At Googleplex(Google's campus) , Googlers have facilities like beach volleyball, soccer, videogames, pool tables and png pong. They even play roller hockey twice a week. This makes the employers really feel like they are at college campus, instead of being in an office.

The workplace at Google is so comforting that it reminds me of the work environment shown to the employees in the movie "AntiTrust".Of course, I meant it just in the workspace environment.

The other factor which might seem silly is that Google provides free meals to all employees at their cafĂ© (known as "Charlie's Place").The food is seemingly very nice that it made Genentech(company which was no.1 in the above ratings before Google and is the inspiration for Google's culture) CEO and Google board member Art Levinson say, "Here I am a guy who can afford a good meal, and every time I go to a Google board meeting, I don't leave until ten o'clock at night because I get a free dinner there". There are also free doctors, swimming spa, washing machines etc there.

All Google engineers are encouraged to spend 20% of their work time (one day per week) on projects that interest them. This makes their work far from turning  monotonous and makes them enjoy their work.

Employer's Perspective:

What it takes to create a college like environment in the company is just a bit of informality added to the offices and as Google is not a kind of business where there's a direct interaction with the customers ,they can afford his without loosing the feel of officialness. In return, what you get is an innovative employees instead of those age old traditional ones .And as Google runs on innovation, it surely helps.

There is not much of effort to be put in enhancing the employees' pride. But when it comes to the talk of the company among aspiring employees , it does a huge impact and makes the brains vie for job at Google. So  they have a wide range of  job seekers  to select from.

The operational costs of Google form 30% of their revenues (taken from 2007 Q4 results ).That's not a very high number. So it proves that to provide facilities like free meals, sports, good workspace environment etc., it doesn't cost much for them. But in return there's a high range of employee satisfaction. When an employee is offered to jump to some other high paying companies ,they would surely interrogate about the availability of these facilities there. So the company can never far about the major problem of software companies - "Employee migration".

Though the allocation of 20% time on individual projects may seem loss of work time, if you know that some of Google's newer services, such as Gmail, Google News, Orkut, and AdSense originated from these independent endeavors, you wouldn't dare to say that again. The advantage is as they are developed in Google itself, the Googlers would prefer it to sell to Google ,rather than some other high offering company. This way evolution of new Google products is made possible.

Google's release of IPO has made many of Googlers millionaires making it the company with mots number of millionaires. The Googlers who are holding the stocks know well about the company. So they won't go for short term selling resulting in the rise of GOOG's share price. As majority of Google's 271million shares are  with Googlers (source -Wikipedia) , the market speculations won't affect it badly. This makes the company's assets raise.

Conclusion:

Due to the above reasons , it makes Google a Best company to work for from an employee's perspective and profitable from  the  employer's perspective. The  Google's success story should give rise to new trends in the organizational culture and values. It doesn't cost much to provide your employees their freedom and comfort.
